Sports Competition, TISAC and Concordian

As many parents are aware, Concordian competes locally with many nearby schools. The group we are involved in is called TISAC (Thailand International School Activity Conference). This group composes of 14 schools including CIS. Monthly, Activities Directors meet to discuss each sports season and develops schedules and rules.  To insure a variety of sports are offered throughout the year seasons were developed and specific sports placed in each season.

Often parents ask why we don’t have teams that last all year round; one answer is that no school in TISAC has the student numbers to form a team for year long competition. In addition, it is important for kids to have the opportunity to explore as variety of sports in hopes of finding at least one that will lead to lifelong participation and enjoyment.

Currently the sports being featured is Basketball and this will last until the end of November.  This will be followed by Soccer from Dec till March then badminton and swimming will finish out the school year.

TISAC offers sports in the following age categories; under 9 (mixed), under 11 (mixed), under 13 (boys/girls), under 15 (boys/girls) and senior (boys/girls). Concordian basketball teams playing this season are: below 11 years old, senior boys and girls. So far this year the teams have been doing well and school and parent support has been fantastic.  Parent support for their kids are always welcome strongly encouraged..

The school has a sport  section on their internet page. This is complete with a description of what TISAC is, how it’s organized and includes the current sports competition schedule. Please visit it  to keep up to date at: http://www.concordian.ac.th/  .

For the parents who would like to see a more full time sporting club, I would like to suggest the formation of a PTA sports club where we can support the school with a Friday afternoon or Saturday sporting activity to draw the community together. Actually, this type of PTA activity is quite common among other international schools and we should consider this as well.

Please send any suggestions to me at john-sports@trrsugar.com
